Cheerleaders Break Dance Record with Baskin Robbins

It’s almost impossible to refrain from dancing when the “Ice Cream and Cake” song by the Buckwheat Boys is plays, and last weekend a big group of cheerleaders really “got down” when they heard it! On August 1 on the UCLA Intramural field in Los Angeles, California, 227 cheerleaders set a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Cheerleading Dance*!

To celebrate the launch of their Ice Cream and Cake Dance Video Contest, Baskin-Robbins, America’s favorite neighborhood ice cream shop, hosted the Largest Cheerleading Dance record-breaker. They were joined by host Mario Lopez who welcomed the large group of cheerleaders, as well as the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) who spread the word about the contest to cheerleaders all over the state of California.

Lauri “Looie” Harris, UCA’s West Regional Manager, worked alongside Baskin-Robbins to help organize the details of the event and served as the MC. She says this event was an experience of a lifetime for the cheerleaders who participated.

“The kids had a blast,” says Looie. “They learned a new little dance, met a lot of other cheerleaders from all over, got free ice cream and shaker poms, and got to visit with a celebrity. They had a fantastic time!”

Along with organizing a great time for the cheerleaders, Baskin-Robbins also put a smile on UCA’s face. On behalf of UCA’s philanthropy project, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Baskin-Robbins donated $1 for each record breaking participant.

According to Looie, the event was a great success for everyone involved. “It was a great event to showcase how fun cheerleading is,” she says. “Music and dancing and having a great time as a team – that’s what cheerleading is all about!”
